About Brian Henderson
Being born into a professional fishing family on the shores of the largest saltwater lake in Australia, just about guaranteed that fishing would dictate a large part of Brian's life.
He started fly fishing in his mid twenties and has spent the ensuing 40 years, learning, teaching and in some cases, leading change in fly casting and fishing techniques.
In 2002 Brian and his wife Anne established and managed a fly fishing lodge in the Snowy Mountains of Australia. When this business was sold in 2012 he decided to exclusively devote his time as a casting instructor to teaching the skill of fly casting and to mentor those who wish to formalize their skills by becoming Casting Instructors (CI) and Master Casting Instructors (MCI)
During this time his students have continually met the certification qualifications required by Fly Fishers International (FFI) to become CI's, MCI's and THMCI's both within Australia and Internationally.
Fly Casting Qualifications
After becoming a CI in 2007 and MCI in 2009 Brian became an examiner with the FFI and has examined in America, Australia, Indonesia, Taiwan, New Zealand and China.
In 2014 he added his Two Hand Master Casting Instructor to his qualifications and is a certified Level 3 examiner.
Brian is currently the only instructor with all of these Certifications in the Southern Hemisphere.
In 2019 he was invited to join The Casting Board of Governors for the FFI and represent Asia Pacific in that role.
That year he was also lead examiner for FFI's first ever instructor examination event in China.
In the FFI governance role he remains the Lead for Asia Pacific and is active in the development, creation and conduct of instructor examinations at all levels and in all styles, including written study guides as well as systems and hands on training of Master Instructors to become qualified examiners.
